Purpose

Iceland has many common features with Japan in that it is an island country, a leading fishing country, and a country with the high life expectancy. We also have some features in common in terms of policy issues and Japan has much to learn from Iceland's experience. For example, regarding the promotion of active social participation by women, Iceland has been on the top in "The Global Gender Gap Report 2015" for 7 years from 2009.
Taking the opportunity of Icelandic parliament members' visit and of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries this year, we hold a workshop to discuss the areas in which Iceland and Japan share common challenges and will cooperate in the future. As the workshop, the members will introduce Iceland's government efforts on gender equality followed by the introduction of Japan's one on it. Views from various countries on this issue are welcome. We also exchange views on the possibility of cooperation in many aspects with the audience.
