Outline: The personalization or individualization of universities, redefinition of their missions, and modernization of university management are called for in science & technology and higher education policies. This trend has been developing relevant policies. Also, many countries, including Japan, are more concerned with international university rankings. Under such circumstances, it is essential for universities to make more efforts for quantitative analyses, including benchmarking with domestic and foreign universities, with having establishment of their own "strategies" in mind.
Through provision of basic knowledge and methods for analyzing the research conducted at universities (including R&D corporations) and place to make information exchange between universities, this training aims to contribute to strengthening university functions.
This year, the seminar will be held online via ZOOM. It will begin with lectures on the basics of paper analyses to be followed by explanation on new reports by NISTEP, introduction of analysis cases using paper database (Web of Science) and provision of information on innovation data platform (SPIAS : SciREX Policymaking Intelligent Assistance System), and various fields visualization tool (SciLand Viewer). The e-CSTI developed by the Cabinet Office will also be introduced. After all of these, the participants will have discussions on the issues they have in common, analysis methods and data. To make the base for exercising these analyses efficiently, the participants are expected to be able to find and share issues in their daily business.
