Outline:
ITU has been the main global source for statistics on ICTs and digital development. Data originating from administrative sources and household surveys covers a variety of topics, from connectivity infrastructure to access and use, as well as barriers such as affordability of ICT services or ICT skills. Based on the recent ITU Global Connectivity Report 2022, the presentation will introduce ITU statistics and the data cycle and offer examples on how statistics can be used for tracking universal and meaningful connectivity or shedding light on the many aspects of the digital divide, both across and within countries. It will also reflect on how statistical evidence can leverage has informed policies for fostering effective digital transformation and resilience across countries. The talk will conclude by addressing the actual and potential application of statistics on digital development in the domain of science, technology and innovation research and policy formulation.
